Group versus individual focus
Students coming from a society with a strong focus on individualism will usually clearly state their opinions and desires whereas students from societies with a group focus tend to hold back their personal opinions. By the others this can be interpreted as lack of knowledge or commitment.
Also, in some cultures, students are used to learning in a group environment which is why, for example, the use of sound might not be advisable in eLearning programs, since it could disturb other group members. It might also be better to avoid the use of sounds to indicate if an answer is right or wrong, because in some cultures this might result in a loss of face in front of colleagues or superiors.
