Visual Theories Introduction
In the Buddhist text called Lama Chopa, by Panchen Lozang Chokyi Gyaltsen (1567 – 1662), the first Panchen Lama of Tibet, we find the following statement about how we perceive the world:
“All external and internal phenomena appear to us as real as a mirage, a dream or the picture of the moon reflected on a still lake, although they completely lack any inherent existence.”
